How products are chosen

The baking soda test

A deodorant is listed only when sodium bicarbonate or baking soda appears on the maker's published ingredient list. Products sold as baking soda free are not listed, and the product page shows the full list so you can check. Baking soda irritates some people's skin; the page does not claim any product is gentler or safer.

Sources

Each page uses the maker's product page plus at least one further source we actually opened, and shows the date checked. We leave out products we cannot confirm are currently sold.

No invented rankings

We do not publish scores that have not been earned. Products our editor has tested hands-on get an Editor's Choice call-out and are listed as the Best; no product carries that label until it has been tested. We do not accept payment for placement, and the facts on each product page come from the maker's own page and at least one other source.
